The technology is simple, the result is impressive: mosaic tiles decorate simple tables and transform chests of drawers into real eye-catchers. A round mosaic table is a beautiful accessory for the terrace, balcony and garden.
The basis for the mosaic table is a special metal frame, available in hardware stores or online shops for mosaic accessories, into which a plywood sheet is inserted. Of course, you can also decorate existing tables or similar with the decorative small mosaic stones. However, you should make sure that both the tiles and the other materials used are suitable for outdoor use.
Good to know:
Tiles with a maximum water absorption of 0.3 percent are considered waterproof and therefore frost-resistant. This includes natural stone tiles, stone or porcelain stoneware and some glass mosaics. You can get finished stones in hardware stores or in craft stores.
Tile fragments are easy to make yourself: Carefully smash whole tiles into pieces with a hammer. To prevent the broken pieces from flying around, wrap the tiles in a towel beforehand!
You can let your creativity run free when arranging the mosaic. You can design an abstract pattern or – for advanced users – lay the mosaic according to a template. In both cases, it is advisable to arrange the mosaic stones or tile fragments on the table top until you are satisfied with the result.
Make sure that the materials are coordinated. For tile fragments made of natural stone, you use special natural stone glue and mortar. These prevent discoloration, are frost-resistant and weatherproof.
