Advent Wreath made from corks
At some point my brother brought me a sack of wine corks with the words: “Here, you can do something!” It took a while and this cork collection was almost forgotten in the meantime, but now it’s there … the Advent wreath made of wine corks. I think especially the dark red wine stains on the bottom of the cork give the whole thing a nice splash of color.

The great thing about cork is that it is flame-retardant. That’s why the material is also great for an Advent wreath. Even so, you should never take your eyes off the wreath when the candles are lit!
Materials for the Advent wreath made from cork
- Wine corks
- Modeling clay (air-drying)
- 4 dark red taper candles
- Glue gun (2 fillings of glue sticks)
- Sheet of paper
- Compasses or plates
- Glass or rolling pin (for modelling clay)
- Possibly a tray
How to make your own Advent wreath out of wine corks
To prevent the candles from falling over, they first need some kind of candlestick. Since the candlestick is glued to the cork, I didn’t want to use expensive candlesticks for it, but made some from modeling clay.
Roll out the modeling clay about half a centimeter thick and cut it so that it can be wrapped around the candle as a candlestick and is about 2 to 3 cm high. Cut out the shape with the knife and wrap the candle in it. Glue the edges with your fingers. Now make 4 candlesticks and then leave the candles with the candlesticks for at least 2 to 3 days so that they harden.
Draw a circle on a piece of paper so that you can orient yourself. My circle was about 30 cm in diameter.
Position the four candles equidistant from each other on the circle.
Now you can glue the corks to the candlesticks and to each other with the hot glue.
Make sure that you keep the shape of the circle and stick the corks together well. If there are small gaps, an extra thick blob of hot glue can seal the hole.
Arrange the corks so that the red undersides of the corks are visible from time to time.
If the paper sticks to the cork, you can carefully peel it off at the end. Finally, remove the thin threads of glue that have spread all over the place with the hot glue gun.
You can also place the Advent wreath on a tray for better stability.
